Description
The popularity of Copper has made a monumental comeback in recent years. It has a beautiful classical finish but also has natural advantages too.
One of Copper's outstanding benefits is its Antimicrobial natural properties. Copper is often recommended for use in hospitals and other locations where hygiene is of the highest importance. Studies have shown that copper material can reduce harmful micro-organisms by up to 95%.
Copper will naturally age and form a beautiful patina over time. However, we have antique Cooper kick plate options available if you can't wait that long.
It's worth noting that Copper is softer than most other materials we offer, so a thicker plate should be installed.
Plain Copper
A fashionably raw copper sheet, suitable for several applications due to its natural antibacterial properties. Over time the material will develop a natural blue/green aged patina; this can, however, be stopped by using a specialist copper metal polish such as "Brasso."
Satin Brushed Copper
The Satin brushed Copper contains the same advantageous qualities as the plain copper sheet but with a grain finish exuding a warm brushed sateen effect.
Antique Copper
Antique brass finish is a raw copper sheet with an authentic and rustic charm. This finish will add traditional beauty to any project.
Bright Polished Copper
The bright polished copper finish is a raw copper sheet carefully polished to be shiny and reflective. Similar to our other Copper finishes, the material will need a specialist metal polish to be routinely applied to the surface to keep the elegant shine.

Light-Duty
Our entry-level kick plates are predominantly for decorative purposes. Whist they will still offer some level of protection to the door, they can only be fitted on a door with a low volume of traffic.
Standard-Duty
Standard-duty is our most commonly used thickness; it is typically the go-to choice for domestic doors and office buildings. Standard duty kick plates offer a great deal of protection while benefiting from good aesthetics. It is suitable for locations with moderate usage.
Heavy-Duty
Heavy-duty kick plates must be installed where additional strength may be required—often used in locations with a greater footfall like public buildings, hospitals, and restaurant kitchen doors. These plates will also offer a great deal of protection against impact from trucks and carts.
Extra Heavy-Duty
Our thickest sheets are often used when the strength and impact resistance of the door protection plate is crucial. Servicing areas like industrial warehouses where the level of impact could be high would call for the extra heavy-duty option.
-
Pre Drilled Holes (Screws included) With this option, our Kicking plates will come pre-drilled and countersunk with matching fixing screws. We use countersunk Philips head wood screws which will sit flat on the kick plate once fixed. The size of the screw is 5/8" x 6g

Plain Copper
Routinely wipe the kickplate down with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Try to avoid using an abrasive sponge, as this may result in scratching the kick plate and damaging the surface.
Be sure to dry the kick plate after cleaning to avoid water spots emerging. Some experts even suggest using "distilled" water in this mix, rather than tap water.
If the surface begins to age or tarnishes, you can apply a specialist metal polish such as 'Brasso,' which should rejuvenate the kick plate to its former glory.
Over time the patina may develop a slight "green" tinge to it – this is perfectly normal and is a part of the metal's natural defense against the elements. You can prevent this by often cleaning with the metal polish.

The surface of these kickplates is known as 'living finish' and will change over time, and they have a beeswax coating to protect the face. You can, however, reapply Beeswax to keep the finish in its pristine state.
Antibacterial coated kick plates.
As people around the world are reeling from the global Covid-19 pandemic, it’s essential to look for ways to reduce the spread of the virus and possible future viruses. At Kick Plate Direct, were doing our small part and addressing this concern head-on with the introduction of antimicrobial coating to our range of kick plates, which will now be available as an optional extra. This protective antibacterial coating fights viruses in public buildings, allowing you to operate safely with peace of mind.
The coating is a clear lacquer finish that is applied to the kick plates at the point of manufacture. The applied coating is barely visible on most materials, allowing the style of your kick plates to shine through. It prevents 99.9% of mold growth, bacteria, biofilm, and viruses for the entire lifetime of the product. Its efficacy has made it a favorite for industries around the world and is tested to the JIS Z 2801 and ISO 22196 international standards.
We recommend the antimicrobial coating be used in hospitals, care homes, public buildings, and schools – the places where safety and hygiene matter the most. We especially recommend the antibacterial coating be applied to push plates and pull handles, which are used by hands. Adding this treatment to kick plates will help fight against cases of flu, colds, and other viruses for years to come.
How does it work? The antimicrobial technology works by embedding silver ions in the material substrate. These ions destabilize the virus-cell, prevent it from replicating, and effectively kill it.
It is entirely safe and comprised of substances approved by the EPA, EFSA, and FDA. It does not include nano-silver, triclosan, or any other organic antimicrobial additives that have environmental concerns. The coating does not wear off, as it is completely incorporated into the kick plate material. It will remain active for the lifespan of the product. We can have the coating applied to any of our kick plates, and they can be installed in any location, both inside and outside.
